GENERAL SAFETY

The safety and comfort of our guests has always been our top priority. From the meticulous planning that goes into organizing our ground transportation, accommodations, and meals, to providing guests with one-on-one assistance making air travel arrangements, getting travel insurance, and even planning additional travel before or after the event, we simply do whatever it takes to make each and every guest comfortable.

Costa Rica in general, and Playa Grande specifically, is a safe, welcoming place to travel, with reliable transportation, stable institutions, and world class universal health care. We provide guests with additional suggestions to ensure a safe and easy trip, and have never had any issues whatsoever. If you have any concerns or questions about safety or security, please don’t hesistate to reach out.

COVID SAFETY

We have not decided what COVID-related safety measures we will require for attendees in May due to the changing circumstances. For our most recent event in November, we required all guests to be fully vaccinated and provide results from a negative test taken within 3 days of arrival. It all went incredibly smoothly, and best of all, because we took those precautions up-front, everyone was able to just relax and forget about covid for a week while we were all together. Whatever the situation in May, we will consult with public health experts and ensure the event conforms with the highest level of safety standards, and we will make sure all guests have plenty of time to make arrangements to comply.

InclusiON

We are also acutely aware of the additional safety concerns and considerations that women and other marginalized people often face when traveling, especially when traveling alone and/or to new and unfamiliar places. Surf & Sales is an inclusive event and we welcome people of all backgrounds to come and share their experiences and their knowledge. We make proactive efforts to ensure the safety and comfort of women and people of color during travel and at the event. So far we’ve had diverse, thoughtful, and welcoming groups that have required zero intervention on our part, but we will gladly - and promptly - provide a full refund and return airfare to anyone who makes others feel less welcome or less safe at our event
